UNI Scholarship Application Required

The following scholarships require completion of the UNI Scholarship Application. Deadlines can vary, however, the most common deadline date is January 15.

Undergraduate Scholarships

Bright Scholars of Iowa

Be an Iowa resident entering UNI directly from high school
Iowa Resident Cost of Attendance per year
Top 10% of high school graduating class; OR RAI of 299+; OR ACT of 28+
Qualify for Federal Pell Grant

UNI Residents of Iowa Scholars of Excellence (UNI RISE) Award

Be an Iowa resident entering UNI directly from high school
$16,000 ($4,000 per year for four years)
Have an ethnic or racial status of African American/Black, Hispanic/Latino, Alaskan Native or American Indian, Asian, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander
Have an ACT composite score of 23 or higher, (SAT combined EWR+M of 1140 or higher), OR a 3.7 GPA
- Students who do not meet the ACT or GPA criteria may be considered if they have a Regents Admissions Index (RAI) score of 290 or higher
Demonstrated involvement in activities outside of the classroom, which could include community service, and display leadership or potential for future leadership
Apply for admission and submit the UNI Scholarship Application by January 15
Approximately 25 students are awarded yearly

Note: Preference will be given to students who demonstrate financial need as determined by the FAFSA, and/or first-generation students. $2,000 can be applied toward summer tuition during one summer term at UNI. The summer would be optional to students, and could be used for study abroad. Minimum enrollment requirement is 3 credits.

Graduate Scholarships

Diversity & Inclusion Advancement Award

The Graduate College is pleased to announce the new Diversity and Inclusion Advancement Award. This award is to support graduate students who demonstrate scholarly promise at UNI, are committed to diversity and inclusion initiatives, and are (a) from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds or (b) underrepresented in ways specific to their academic discipline or field.

Year 1: Granted to new students
- Transition scholarship: A $1,500 scholarship to support the student’s transition to the Graduate College. This scholarship is provided during the first year only.
  - Regarding disbursement, the Graduate College will award the scholarship directly to the student’s account. After prior balances and mandatory fees are covered, the remainder will be a refund to the student.
- A full-time graduate assistantship (fall and spring semester)*.
- Full tuition scholarship.
- Approximately $1,500 to cover costs associated with mandatory student fees.
Year 2: Renewal with satisfactory academic progress
- A full-time graduate assistantship (fall and spring semester)*.
- Full tuition scholarship.
- Approximately $1,500 to cover costs associated with mandatory student fee

Eligibility

Be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident,
Plan to enroll as a full-time graduate student in an on-campus, UNI degree program
Hold a minimum GPA of 3.0, and
Meet at least one of the criteria below:

Previous participation in a TRIO Program; or
Self-identification as a traditionally underrepresented student (e.g., students who are ethnically or racially diverse; students with military/veteran status, students with disabilities) and/or in ways that may be specific to their academic discipline or field.
