Native American Heritage Month

We enjoyed many different groups who came together for fry bread and fun. Trisha Etringer Skyped in to share her experience standing on the frontlines at the Dakota Access Pipeline protests. For more information, see and Some people of the Meskwaki tribe came to share their singing and dancing, educating us about their culture and inviting us to join in with them. Baskets of cups and yarn were made. Paintings were painted. Thank you for coming out to support the Native Americans and all who wish to protect water purity!

Black History Month

Wellness and Recreation Center

In order to celebrate African American Heritage Month, CME collaborated with Black Students Union's Skate Night Party. The event took place in Wellness and Recreation Center where we welcomed students, faculty, and community members into the phenomenal 70s and 80s disco theme. Participants enjoyed making peace-sign necklaces and bracelets, cultural comfort food and learning all about important events in Black history during the 70s. Thanks to everyone who came and especially Black Students Union for helping at the event!

Women's History Month

Partnering up Women and Gender Studies in celebrating the its 40 year anniversary at UNI, the CME brings the guests to the event where they could learn about gender equality through many activities such as keynote speaker, comfort food, decorating your own pair of glasses. Thank you Women and Gender Studies for making it possible to present the event. 

Asian and Pacific American Heritage Month

In celebration of Pacific and Asian month, the CME invited students and community members to a fun and exciting event consists of performance from the Middle Eastern Dance Club, canvas painting, Chinese calligraphy, traditional Vietnamese and Thai cuisine, live music from KULT and many more activities. A big part of this event was the demonstration of an artist that flew all the way from China with the purpose bringing traditional Chinese art closer to the Western painting. Thanks to the CME and International Students Program for inviting the famous Chinese Artist, Mr. Xiaoting Wang, to the event.
